9HP Tray Cooled ALAMO.
I have a maybe rare 9hp, horizonal Alamo on steel trucks. It has a
spark plug on top, traypan cooled, and a teardrop shaped governor of
some sort on one of the flywheels. The serial number is in the four
digit range. It needs restoring and I plan to start soon. If you are
interested in seeing it I can email photos.
Here are two photos of the engine and one of the serial number
plate. As you can see on the plate its serial number is 4230. When I
found the engine it was 2.5 miles from my house. It was parked at a now
abandoned farm 70 years ago by a cousin. Its original owner was my
great uncle Andrew. He had died in 1922. After a year of work I have
removed the piston. The wheels were missing but I have found
replacements. The cart will need restoring first. The man who had
parked it told me something went wrong with it and the engine was not
repaired. My guess is the carb was broken off because it sat on top of
the cylinder. As you can see, a lot of work is needed. If you have any
questions I will be glad to answer them. -Turner
