Identical Gilson Johnny-On-The-Spot to the ones made in Port Washington were also built in Canada at the Gilson plant in Guelph, Ontario from 1912 to 1916. These engines shared the same hp rating, paint color BUT serial numbers had 5 digits starting at # 51001. By 1917, Gilson in Guelph came out with a new "Johnny-On-The-Spot". The most noticiable difference was the change in color. The engines were now green in color with gold and black trimmings. It also sported the name Gilson, Gilson-Guelph, BT or Le Mulet cast in raised letters on both sides of the water hopper. At the same time their "Johnny-On-The-Spot was re-rated at 1-3/4hp and a larger JOTS was introduced, at 2-1/4hp at first, then at 2-1/2hp. Both sizes of JOTS shared the same block of serial numbers which were from number 51220 to number 54888. The last Johnny-On-The-Spot was built in 1929 or 1930 when Gilson stopped making gasoline engines. |
