I was told that this 1-3/4hp Johnny-On-The-Spot resulted from an arrangement between the Gilson Mfg. Co. and the Beatty Pump Co. of Fergus, Ontario. Beatty contracted Gilson to provide engines for their pumps but because of the size of the hopper, they couldn't fit the fancy scripted Beatty on it and probably because of the cost involved of doing a pattern for something like that! So they comprimised and that is the result. The letters BT when prononced makes the sound "Beatty". Clever hey!

There is a cover over the ignitor hole. It looks like a factory fitted cover. The head is obviously the right head for it as is the muffler.

This Gilson has a cast iron crank guard but the name tag is unfortunately missing.

Hi Denis,
Bought a Model JS w/ BT cast on side of hopper today. 3 3/4 " bore, 4 1/2" stroke. Some original green paint so I assume it is a Canadian engine. It has sheet metal crank guard but no tag. It has a Webster magneto/ignitor bracket # 303M40 but is missing magneto. It was apparently being run w/ battery & coil and it has a spark plug. The ignitor appears to be factory installed as the governor arrangement is a little different than the ones I've seen that had factory battery/coil ignition. When equipped w/ mag/ignitor I wonder if they just plug spark hole w/ a pipe plug? The tapped hole for plug has the normal raised boss as on all Gilson heads I've seen.

The name tag is gone but a serial # 53246 is
stamped on the face of one of the flywheels.
