GILSON Style "D" (4-1/2hp).
Port Washington, Wis., U.S.A.

This is a water hopper cooled Gilson engine. Its stamped brass tag indicates
that it is a Style "D", 4-1/2 hp., "Goes Like Sixty", built in Port Washington
and the serial number is 10546. The original paint color was red, has smooth
hopper sides (no name cast there) and it seems it never came with a sheet metal
guard over the crankshaft. Some parts numbers start with the letter "N" and
others start with the letter "F". An early Gilson catalog (G-3) shows the
Gilson Style "D" as being built in the 2 and 3 hp sizes only. The 4-1/2hp.
must have been added later on. The Style "D" was built in the same general
lines as the Style "E" air cooled, with the only difference that it is equipped
with a water jacket and hopper instead of the flanged cylinder and fan of the
Style "E" air cool Gilson.
