This is a 1-3/4hp "Johnny-On-The-Spot" Gilson engine.
It looks like any other JOTS built in Guelph but there
is one noticeable difference. The words Gilson and Guelph
are cast in raised letters on both sides of the water hopper.
Usually only the word Gilson appears in that location. |
|
On the carb is stamped U131. On the head is stamped 897. J.S. 2 is stamped
on the left crank bearing cap. J.S. 77 is stamped on the timing lever on the
right side of the crank. J-S 42 1/2. On the crank is stamped J.S. 36. The
engine does have 16" flywheels. It uses a
battery with spark plug ignition. There are 3 holes on the back of
the engine base for what appears to be for a crank guard. It does also have a
hollow piston rod with a long slot made into it. There is a hole on the crank
bearing cap for what appears to be for a small grease cup though there are no
threads. Again the engine is green with Gilson Guelph cast into the hopper.
No tag. No serial number.
