Bearings

All bearings should be kept in proper adjustment. Care should be taken that the bearings
are tight and the engine should never be allowed to run with the bearings loose enough to
pound or knock. After tightening the bearing caps the bearings must be watched closely
for a little while to see that they do not heat.

How To Adjust Engine Speed

The speed of this engine may be adjusted to run faster or slower
by turning the screw No. 135, screwing clock-wise for a higher speed,
and in the opposite direction for a lower speed.

Care of the Magneto

See the magneto instruction card for care of magneto.

Catch Block and Governor Finger Adjustment

The governor catch block No. 136 is made of hardened steel and can be turned around if
for any reason it becomes worn or damaged. The space between the governor catch block
No. 136 and the push rod catch block No. 161 should not be more than 1/32 inch and not
less than 1/64 inch and there should always be enough space between these two blocks
so that the governor catch block No. 136 will engage properly with the push rod catch
block. If adjusted too close, there will be a chance of the push rod catch block slipping
off of the governor catch block at the wrong time, and this condition would make a
pounding noise, caused by the slamming of the cam roller on the cam. If the distance
between these two blocks is too great, a knock will also develop which is caused by
the slamming of the cam on the cam roller. Therefore it is important to have these
blocks properly adjusted for a quiet running engine.
